ON AGRICULTURAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF MEKONG RIVER AREA

The Mekong sub-region includes the following countries: Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Myanmar, with an area of 2.3 million square kilometers, and a population of about 350 million people. In which agricultural labor accounts for 32 to 70%, depending on the country. Annual contribution to GDP of countries is about 11 to 30%.

The potential for agricultural production is very good due to the mild climate and fertile soil. But the value of agricultural products is very low and safe agricultural products account for a small percentage. The bigger danger is that agricultural production is disrupting ecosystems, causing many serious pests and diseases, and the ability to control them is increasingly difficult.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and CAB International (CABI), conducted a joint study on “Comprehensive program on Nature-based solutions for eco-friendly crop protection and One Health in the APRC Region”. APRC region is the Greater Mekong sub-region, including: China, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar.

The meeting will take place from June 14-15, 2023 in Hanoi. GAH Co., Ltd is the only company in Vietnam honored to attend the meeting.
